⁵ Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.^(A)

What God Requires

¹² “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you except to fear^(A) the Lord your God by walking in all his ways, to love him, and to worship the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul?^{(B) 13} Keep the Lord’s commands and statutes I am giving you today, for your own good.^(C)

¹³ “If you carefully obey my commands I am giving you today, to love the Lord your God and worship him with all your heart and all your soul, ¹⁴ I^[a] will provide rain for your land in the proper time, the autumn and spring rains,^(A) and you will harvest your grain, new wine, and fresh oil.^{(B) 15} I^[b] will provide grass in your fields for your livestock. You will eat and be satisfied.^{(C) 16} Be careful^(D) that you are not enticed to turn aside, serve, and bow in worship to other gods.^{(E) 17} Then the Lord’s anger will burn against you.^(F) He will shut the sky, and there will be no rain;^(G) the land will not yield its produce, and you will perish quickly from the good land^(H) the Lord is giving you.
