But Peter followed Him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in and sat with the servants to see the end.

The men who had seized Jesus took him off to Caiaphas the High Priest in whose house the scribes and elders were assembled. Peter followed him at a safe distance right up to the High Priest’s courtyard. Then he went inside and sat down with the servants and waited to see the end.

Peter followed at a safe distance until they got to the Chief Priest’s courtyard. Then he slipped in and mingled with the servants, watching to see how things would turn out.
But Peter followed Him from afar to the high priest’s courtyard and went in, and sat with the servants to see the end.

Peter followed Jesus (though at some distance so as not to be seen). He slipped into Caiaphas’s house and attached himself to a group of servants. And he sat watching, waiting to see how things would unfold.
But Peter followed him from a distance, to the court of the high priest, and entered in and sat with the officers, to see the end.
Peter followed Jesus a long way behind. He went as far as the yard of the high priest's house. He sat down with the people who worked for the high priest. He wanted to see how this would end.
But Peter followed him afar, [till] into the hall of the prince of priests; and he went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
