And when the chief priests and the Pharisees had heard His parables, they perceived that He spoke of them.

When the chief priests and other Jewish leaders realized that Jesus was talking about them—that they were the farmers in his story—
When the religious leaders heard this story, they knew it was aimed at them. They wanted to arrest Jesus and put him in jail, but, intimidated by public opinion, they held back. Most people held him to be a prophet of God.
