In the same way, after ·supper [they had eaten], Jesus took the cup and said, “·This cup [or This cup that is poured out…] is the new ·agreement [covenant; C a binding relationship between God and his people; Jer. 31:31–34] ·that begins with [that is established by; or that is sealed with; L in] my blood, which is poured out for you [C interpreters differ as to whether it is the “cup” or the “blood” that Jesus says is “poured out”].
So too, he gave them a cup after supper with the words, “This cup is the new agreement made in my own blood which is shed for you. Yet the hand of the man who is betraying me lies with mine at this moment on the table. The Son of Man goes on his appointed way: yet alas for the man by whom he is betrayed!”
And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach took the kos (cup) similarly after they ate, saying, This kos (cup) is HaBrit HaChadasha in my dahm, being shed for you. [Ex 24:8; Isa 42:6; Jer 31:31-34; Zech 9:11; 53:10-12]
He took also the cup, after that he had supped, and said, This cup is the new testament in my blood, that shall be shed for you. [Also and the chalice, after that he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which shall be shed for you.]
