Lamentations 4:17

As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
Our eyes do yet fail in looking for our vain help: In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.
[And as for us,] yet our eyes failed, Looking in vain for help. Watching [from the towers] we watched For a nation that could not save.
As for us, our eyes yet failed and wasted away in looking for our worthless help. In our watching [on our watchtower] we have watched and waited expectantly for a nation [Egypt or some other one to come to our rescue] that could not save us.
As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
All the while our eyes were failing as we looked in vain for help; we watched from our towers for a nation that would not save us.
Our eyes continually failed, looking for some help, but for nothing. From our watchtower we watched for a nation that doesn’t save.
As for us, our eyes are worn out from looking in vain for help; we kept on watching and watching for a nation that couldn’t save us.
Our eyes became weary, hopelessly looking for help from a nation that could not save us.
Our eyes still failed for our vain help; in our watching, we have watched for a nation that did not save.
Ain. While we were yet standing, our eyes failed, expecting help for us in vain, when we looked attentively towards a nation that was not able to save.
We have worn out our eyes looking for help, but no help comes. We kept on looking for a nation to save us. We kept watch from our watchtower, but no nation came to us.
Our eyes became red as we watched. We were looking for help, but it did not come. The people from other countries could not save us.
Our eyes are still worn out, looking in vain for our help. In our watchtowers we watched for a nation that could not save us.
Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; in our watching we watched for a nation which could not save.
Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; in our watching we watched for a nation which could not save.
Also, our eyes ·grew tired [failed], looking for help ·that never came [in vain; without purpose; 2:11; Ps. 69:3; 119:82, 123]. We kept watch ·from our towers [or eagerly] for a nation ·to save us [L that could not save us/give us victory; C Judah had hoped that Egypt would rescue them from Babylon; Jer. 2:18, 36].
While we waited for our vain help, our eyes failed: for in our waiting we looked for a nation that could not save us.
“We are still straining our eyes, trying in vain to find help. We waited and waited for a nation that didn’t save us.
For help that never came, we looked until we could look no longer. We kept waiting for help from a nation that had none to give.
All the while our eyes were failing as we looked in vain for assistance; we watched from our towers for a nation that refused to help.
Also, our eyes grew tired looking for help that never came. We kept watch from our towers for a nation to save us.
Our eyes failed, searching in vain for hope; we kept watching and looking for a nation that would not help.
As for us, our eyes have failed in seeking our vain help; in our watching we have watched for people that cannot save us.
As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
Yet our eyes were spent, Looking for help was vanity; In our watching we have watched For a nation that could not save.
Still our eyes failed, looking for our help in vain; in our watchtower, we kept watch for a nation that could not save.
We look for our allies to come and save us, but we look in vain. The nation we expected most to help us makes no move at all.
We watched and watched, wore our eyes out looking for help. And nothing. We mounted our lookouts and looked for the help that never showed up.
Our eyes failed us, watching vainly for help; in our watchtowers we watched for a nation that could not save us.
“We are still straining our eyes, trying in vain to find help. We waited and waited for a nation that didn’t save us.
Even now our eyes are worn out, searching in vain for help; From our watchtower we have watched for a nation unable to save.
Yet our eyes failed, Looking for help was useless; At our observation point we have watched For a nation that could not save.
Yet our eyes failed, Looking for help was useless; In our watching we have watched For a nation that could not save.
Continually we strained our eyes, looking in vain for help. From our towers we watched endlessly for a nation that could not save us.
Also, our eyes grew tired, looking for help that never came. We kept watch from our towers for a nation to save us.
Our eyes continually failed us as we looked in vain for help. From our watchtowers we watched for a nation that could not rescue us.
And that’s not all. Our eyes grew tired. We looked for help that never came. We watched from our towers. We kept looking for a nation that couldn’t save us.
Moreover, our eyes failed, looking in vain for help; from our towers we watched for a nation that could not save us.
Moreover, our eyes failed, looking in vain for help; from our towers we watched for a nation that could not save us.
Still our eyes failed us, Watching vainly for our help; In our watching we watched For a nation that could not save us.
Our eyes have become weak in looking for help that did not come. In our watching we have waited for a nation that was not able to save us.
We looked in vain for our allies to come and save us, but we were looking to nations that could not help us.
Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; we were watching eagerly for a nation that could not save.
Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; we were watching eagerly for a nation that could not save.
Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; we were watching eagerly for a nation that could not save.
Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; we were watching eagerly for a nation that could not save.
As for us, our eyes failed looking in vain for ezratenu (our help); from our towers we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; in our watching we watched for a nation which could not save.
Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; in our watching we watched for a nation which could not save.
Even now our eyes waste away looking in vain for our help. From our towers we watched for a nation that could not save us.
Quietly we waited for help until our eyes failed. We hoped and watched for a nation to rescue us. But we waited in vain: no rescue came.
Our eyes still fail, looking in vain for our help. In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.
The while we stood yet, our eyes failed to our vain help; when we beheld attentive to a folk, that might not save us. (Yet while we stood, our eyes looked in vain for our help; we looked attentively for a nation, that could not save us.)
While we exist -- consumed are our eyes for our vain help, In our watch-tower we have watched for a nation [that] saveth not.
