“Doth our law judge any man before it hear him and know what he doeth?”
Doth our law judge a man, except it first hear from himself and know what he doeth?
“Does our Law convict someone without first giving him a hearing and finding out what he is [accused of] doing?”

One of their number, Nicodemus (the one who had previously been to see Jesus), remarked to them, “But surely our Law does not condemn the accused without hearing what he has to say, and finding out what he has done?”

“Is it legal to convict a man before he is even tried?” he asked.
Nicodemus, the man who had come to Jesus earlier and was both a ruler and a Pharisee, spoke up. “Does our Law decide about a man’s guilt without first listening to him and finding out what he is doing?”
“Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?”

Surely Torateinu (Our Torah) judges not the Man unless it hears first from the Man himself and has da’as of what he does, does it? [Dt 1:16; 17:6; Ex 23:1]

He said, `Is it right to judge any man by our law before we hear him and learn what he has done?'
Whether our law deemeth a man, but it have first heard of him [no but first it hear of him], and know what he doeth?
`Doth our law judge the man, if it may not hear from him first, and know what he doth?'
