Job 30:3
From want and famine they were solitary, fleeing into the wilderness, in former time desolate and waste,
They are gaunt with want and famine; They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of wasteness and desolation.

Stiff from want and hunger, those who gnaw dry ground, yesterday’s desolate waste,
Worn out by want and hunger, they gnaw the dry ground in the gloom of waste and desolation.
They must claw the desert sand in the dark for something to satisfy their hunger.
Withered up through want and hunger, they flee into waste places long since desolate and desert:
Barren with want and hunger, who gnawed in the wilderness, disfigured with calamity and misery.
They are starving with nothing to eat, so they chew on the dry, ruined land.
Through want and hard hunger they gnaw the dry ground by night in waste and desolation;

Unproductive due to poverty and hunger, they could only scratch in parched soil, devastated and desolated.
For want and famine they walked alone; fleeing into solitude, to the dark place, desolate and waste.

But they are worse than dogs—good for nothing, stray, mangy animals, Half-starved, scavenging the back alleys, howling at the moon; Homeless guttersnipes chewing on old bones and licking old tin cans; Outcasts from the community, cursed as dangerous delinquents. Nobody would put up with them; they were driven from the neighborhood. You could hear them out there at the edge of town, yelping and barking, huddled in junkyards, A gang of beggars and no-names, thrown out on their ears.

Gaunt from starvation, haggard from hunger that drives them to gnaw the ground in the night, a ground all wasted and hollowed-out,
They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.
They were barren for neediness and hunger; they gnawed in (the) wilderness, and were (made) pale for poverty and wretchedness;
