Thus says the Lord of hosts, “They will thoroughly gather like [fruit on] a vine what is left of Israel; Pass your hand [over the vine] again and again [Babylon, tool of destruction] like a grape gatherer, Over the branches [stripping the tendrils off the vine].”
Thus says the Lord of hosts: They shall thoroughly glean as a vine what is left of Israel; turn back your hand again and again [O minister of destruction] into the baskets, like a grape gatherer, and strip the tendrils [of the vine].
This is what the Lord All-Powerful says: “Gather the people of Israel who were left on their land. Gather them the way you would gather the last grapes on a grapevine. Check each vine, like the workers check each vine when they pick the grapes.”
This is what the Lord ·All-Powerful [Almighty; of Heaven’s Armies; T of hosts] says: “·Gather [L Glean] the ·few people of Israel who are left alive [L remnant of Israel], as ·you would gather the last grapes on a grapevine [L a vine; C Israel is often compared to a vine; Gen. 49:11–12, 22; Ps. 80:9–10; Is. 5:1–2]. ·Check each vine again [L Return your hand over it again], like ·someone who gathers grapes.”
This is what the Lord of heaven’s armies says: “Gather the few people of Israel who are left alive. Gather them as you would the last grapes on a grapevine. Check each vine again, like someone who gathers grapes.”
Disaster on disaster shall befall you. Even the few who remain in Israel shall be gleaned again, the Lord Almighty has said; for as a grape-gatherer checks each vine to pick what he has missed, so the remnant of my people shall be destroyed again.
This is what the Lord All-Powerful says: “Gather the few people of Israel who are left alive, as you would gather the last grapes on a grapevine. Check each vine again, like someone who gathers grapes.”
This is what the Lord who rules over all said to me: “Those who remain in Israel will be like the grapes thoroughly gleaned from a vine. So go over them again, as though you were a grape harvester passing your hand over the branches one last time.”
The Lord rules over all. He says to me, “People gather the few grapes left on a vine. So let Israel’s enemies gather the few people left alive in the land Look carefully at the branches again. Do this like someone who gathers the last few grapes.”
This is what the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, decrees: Eternal One: The enemy will pass over the remnant of Israel again and glean what is left, like the worker who checks the vine again for any missed grapes.
The Lord of hosts saith these things, They shall gather till to a raisin, they shall gather the remnants of Israel as in a vinery (they shall gather the remnants of Israel like in a vineyard); turn thine hand, as a gatherer of grapes to the basket.
