“Is this man [King] Coniah a despised, broken jar? Is he a vessel in which no one takes pleasure? Why are he and his [royal] descendants hurled out And cast into a land which they do not know or understand?
Is this man [King] Coniah a despised, broken pot? Is he a vessel in which no one takes pleasure? Why are they hurled out, he and his royal offspring, and cast into a land which they do not know, understand, or recognize?
·Jehoiachin is like a broken pot someone threw away [L Is this man Jehoiachin a despised broken pot…?]; ·he is like something [L a vessel…?] no one wants. Why will Jehoiachin and his children be ·thrown out [hurled away] and ·sent [thrown] into a ·foreign land [country they do not know; C exiled to Babylon]?
Is Jehoiachin a leaky bucket, a rusted-out pail good for nothing? Why else would he be thrown away, he and his children, thrown away to a foreign place? O land, land, land, listen to God’s Message! This is God’s verdict: “Write this man off as if he were childless, a man who will never amount to anything. Nothing will ever come of his life. He’s the end of the line, the last of the kings.”
This man, Jeconiah, will be like a broken pot someone threw away. He will be like a clay vessel that no one wants. Why will he and his children be forced into exile? Why will they be thrown out into a country they know nothing about?
Whether this man Jeconiah is (but) an earthen vessel, and all-broken? whether a vessel without all-liking? (but a vessel all despised?) Why (else) be he and his seed cast away, and cast forth into a land which they knew not?
A grief -- a despised broken thing -- is this man Coniah? A vessel in which there is no pleasure? Wherefore have they been cast up and down, He and his seed, Yea, they were cast on to a land that they knew not?
