Ecclesiastes 7:16
Be not righteous overmuch, neither make thyself overwise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
Be not righteous overmuch; neither make thyself overwise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
Do not be excessively righteous [like those given to self-conceit], and do not be overly wise (pretentious)—why should you bring yourself to ruin?
Be not [morbidly exacting and externally] righteous overmuch, neither strive to make yourself [pretentiously appear] overwise—why should you [get puffed up and] destroy yourself [with presumptuous self-sufficiency]?
Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
Don’t be too righteous or too wise, or you may be dumbfounded.
So don’t be overly righteous or overly wise; why should you disappoint yourself?
So don’t destroy yourself by being too good or acting too smart!
Be not righteous overmuch; neither make thyself overwise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
These things also I saw in the days of my vanity: A just man perisheth in his justice, and a wicked man liveth a long time in his wickedness.
So why ruin your life? Don’t be too good or too bad, and don’t be too wise or too foolish. Why should you die before your time?
Be not overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise. Why should you destroy yourself?
Be not overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise. Why should you destroy yourself?
Don’t be ·too [overly] ·right [righteous; good], and don’t ·be too [or pretend to be] wise. Why ·destroy [ruin] yourself?
In the day of wealth be of good comfort, and in the day of affliction consider: God also hath made this contrary to that, to the intent that man should find nothing after him.
Don’t be too virtuous, and don’t be too wise. Why make yourself miserable?
So don't be too good or too wise—why kill yourself
Don’t be excessively righteous, and don’t be overly wise. Why should you destroy yourself?
Don’t try to be too right all the time. Don’t try to be too wise, either. Why should you destroy yourself this way?
Do not be overly righteous, nor be overly wise. Why be self-destructive?
Do not be too legalistic; neither make thyself over wise in thine own eyes: why should thou destroy thyself?
Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself ?
Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
Do not be excessively righteous, and do not act excessively wise, lest you destroy yourself.
In this silly life I have seen everything, including the fact that some of the good die young and some of the wicked live on and on. So don’t be too good or too wise! Why destroy yourself? On the other hand, don’t be too wicked either—don’t be a fool! Why should you die before your time?
I’ve seen it all in my brief and pointless life—here a good person cut down in the middle of doing good, there a bad person living a long life of sheer evil. So don’t knock yourself out being good, and don’t go overboard being wise. Believe me, you won’t get anything out of it. But don’t press your luck by being bad, either. And don’t be reckless. Why die needlessly?
Do not be excessively righteous, and do not be extremely wise; why should you destroy yourself?
Don’t be too virtuous, and don’t be too wise. Why make yourself miserable?
“Be not just to excess, and be not overwise. Why work your own ruin?
Do not be excessively righteous and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself?
Don’t be too right, and don’t be too wise. Why destroy yourself?
So do not be excessively righteous or excessively wise; otherwise you might be disappointed.
Don’t claim to be better than you are. And don’t claim to be wiser than you are. Why destroy yourself?
Do not be overrighteous, neither be overwise— why destroy yourself?
Do not be over-righteous, neither be overwise – why destroy yourself?
Do not be overly righteous, Nor be overly wise: Why should you destroy yourself?
Do not be too right and good, and do not be too wise. Why should you destroy yourself?
So don’t be too good or too wise! Why destroy yourself?
Do not be too righteous, and do not act too wise; why should you destroy yourself?
Do not be too righteous, and do not act too wise; why should you destroy yourself?
Do not be too righteous, and do not act too wise; why should you destroy yourself?
Do not be too righteous, and do not act too wise; why should you destroy yourself?
Do not be over much the tzaddik nor over much the chacham; why cause thyself desolation?
Be not righteous overmuch, and do not make yourself overwise; why should you destroy yourself?
Be not righteous overmuch, and do not make yourself overwise; why should you destroy yourself?
Do not be overly righteous nor overly wise— why confound yourself?
So my advice? Do not act overly righteous, and do not think yourself wiser than others. Why go and ruin yourself?
Don’t be overly righteous, neither make yourself overly wise. Why should you destroy yourself?
Do not thou be just over much, neither understand thou more than is needful; lest thou be astonied. (Do not thou be too good, nor understand thou more than is useful; lest thou be regarded with contempt, or with derision.)
Be not over-righteous, nor show thyself too wise, why art thou desolate?
