We heard that the Jews haven’t agreed to change to the Greek way of life, as our father wanted, but preferred their own way of life and asked to be permitted to have their own law.
And we have heard that the Jews would not consent to my father to turn to the rites of the Greeks, but that they would keep to their own manner of living, and therefore that they request us to allow them to live after their own laws.
I understand that the Jews do not wish to adopt the Greek way of life, as my father had intended, but prefer their own way of life and have requested that they be allowed to live according to their own customs.
We have heard that the Jews do not agree with our father’s change to Greek customs but prefer their own way of life. They are petitioning us to let them retain their own customs.
We have heard that the Jews are opposed to our father’s policy concerning the adoption of Greek customs but rather prefer their own way of life and request that they be permitted to observe their own laws.

we have heard that (the) Jews assented not to the father (or to our father), to be translated (or transferred over) to the custom of (the) Greeks, but will (or desire) [for to] hold their (own) ordinance, and that therefore they ask of us, that their lawful things be granted to them.
