2 Corinthians 1:9
Print
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raiseth the dead,
yea, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead:
Indeed, we felt within ourselves that we had received the sentence of death [and were convinced that we would die, but this happened] so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead.
Indeed, we felt within ourselves that we had received the [very] sentence of death, but that was to keep us from trusting in and depending on ourselves instead of on God Who raises the dead.
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.
It certainly seemed to us as if we had gotten the death penalty. This was so that we would have confidence in God, who raises the dead, instead of ourselves.
In our hearts we felt we were under sentence of death. However, this was to get us to rely not on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead!
In fact, we felt sure we were going to die. But this made us stop trusting in ourselves and start trusting God, who raises the dead to life.
But we ourselves had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not have our trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves in order that we should not be trusting in ourselves, but in God, the One raising the dead,
But we had in ourselves the answer of death, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead.
In fact, it seems like God has been telling us we are going to die. But this is so that we will not trust in ourselves but in God, who raises people from death.
We ourselves thought that we would certainly die. We knew that we could not trust our own strength. We had to trust God. He is the one who causes dead people to rise up to new life. So we could trust him to make us strong.
Yes, we even felt the sentence of death within ourselves. This happened so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God, who raises the dead.
Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
Truly, in our own hearts we believed we ·would die [L had been sentenced to death]. But this happened so we would not trust in ourselves but in God, who raises people from the dead.
Yea, we received the sentence of death in ourselves, because we should not rest in ourselves, but in God, which raised the dead.
In fact, we still feel as if we’re under a death sentence. But we suffered so that we would stop trusting ourselves and learn to trust God, who brings the dead back to life.
We felt that the death sentence had been passed on us. But this happened so that we should rely, not on ourselves, but only on God, who raises the dead.
Indeed, we personally had a death sentence within ourselves, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.
Truly, in our own hearts we believed that we would die. But this happened so that we would not trust in ourselves. It happened so that we would trust in God, who raises people from death.
In fact, we felt that we had received a death sentence so we would not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.
We should like you, our brothers, to know something of what we went through in Asia. At that time we were completely overwhelmed, the burden was more than we could bear, in fact we told ourselves that this was the end. Yet we believe now that we had this experience of coming to the end of our tether that we might learn to trust, not in ourselves, but in God who can raise the dead. It was God who preserved us from imminent death, and it is he who still preserves us. Further, we trust him to keep us safe in the future, and here you can join in and help by praying for us, so that the good that is done to us in answer to many prayers will mean eventually that many will thank God for our preservation.
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
but we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
Indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not have confidence in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;
But we ourselves had the sentence of death in ourselves, so that we would not be putting confidence in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead,
We felt we were doomed to die and saw how powerless we were to help ourselves; but that was good, for then we put everything into the hands of God, who alone could save us, for he can even raise the dead.
We don’t want you in the dark, friends, about how hard it was when all this came down on us in Asia province. It was so bad we didn’t think we were going to make it. We felt like we’d been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally—not a bad idea since he’s the God who raises the dead! And he did it, rescued us from certain doom. And he’ll do it again, rescuing us as many times as we need rescuing. You and your prayers are part of the rescue operation—I don’t want you in the dark about that either. I can see your faces even now, lifted in praise for God’s deliverance of us, a rescue in which your prayers played such a crucial part.
We had the sentence of death in ourselves, so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead.
Indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should no longer trust in ourselves, but in the God who raises the dead.
In fact, we still feel as if we’re under a death sentence. But we suffered so that we would stop trusting ourselves and learn to trust God, who brings the dead back to life.
Indeed, we had accepted within ourselves the sentence of death, that we might trust not in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.
Indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead,
indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;
Indeed, in our hearts we felt that we were under a sentence of death. This was so that we not put our trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.
Truly, in our own hearts we believed we would die. But this happened so we would not trust in ourselves but in God, who raises people from the dead.
Indeed we felt as if the sentence of death had been passed against us, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.
In fact, we felt as if we were under the sentence of death. But that happened so that we would not depend on ourselves but on God. He raises the dead to life.
Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.
Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.
Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead,
We thought we would die. This happened so we would not put our trust in ourselves, but in God Who raises the dead.
In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.
Also, we received an answer of death in ourselves, and that because we should not put our trust in ourselves, but in God, who raises the dead to life again,
Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death so that we would rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death so that we would rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death so that we would rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death so that we would rely not on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.
Yes: deep inside ourselves we received the death sentence. This was to stop us relying on ourselves, and to make us rely on the God who raises the dead.
But we ourselves have had the gezar din (verdict) of mishpat mavet (a death sentence) in ourselves so that we should not have emunah (faith) in ourselves but in Hashem, Mechayyei Mesim (Who Revivest the Dead). [Shemoneh Esreh, YIRMEYAH 17:5,7]
But, we received the sentence of death in ourselves, because we should not rest in ourselves, but in God, Who raised the dead.
Why, we felt that we had received the sentence of death; but that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead;
Why, we felt that we had received the sentence of death; but that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead;
In fact, we had within ourselves the death sentence—so that we might not rely on ourselves, but on God who raises the dead.
We thought we would have to serve out our death sentences right then and there. As a result, we realized that we could no longer rely on ourselves and that we must trust solely in God, who possesses the power to raise the dead.
Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead,
He saved us from the death that was so near, and he still saves us. We believe that God will keep on saving us.
But we in us selves had answer of death, that we trust not in us, but in God that raiseth dead men. [But we ourselves in ourselves had answer, or certainty, of death, that we be not trusting in ourselves, but in God that raiseth dead men.]
but we ourselves in ourselves the sentence of the death have had, that we may not be trusting on ourselves, but on God, who is raising the dead,
