Now the children of Israel according to their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers who served the king in any matter of the succession of duties, who came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand:

They served the king in every way their divisions required, and they were on duty for a month at a time through all the months of the year. Each division numbered 24,000.
The people of Isra’el, registered according to their clan leaders, were drafted for army duty under captains of thousands and of hundreds, and officers serving the king, in divisions of 24,000 each, for month-long terms of duty covering all the months of the year.
Each month a group of twenty-four thousand men served as soldiers in Israel’s army. These men, which included the family leaders, army commanders, and officials of the king, were under the command of the following men, arranged by the month of their service:

Forsooth the sons of Israel by their number, the princes of families, the tribunes, and centurions, and prefects, that ministered to the king by their companies of knights, entering in and going out by each month in the year, were sovereigns, each by himself, upon four and twenty thousand. (Now the number of Israelites, that is, the leaders of the families, and the tribunes, and the centurions, and the prefects, who served the king with their companies of horsemen, coming in and going out each month of the year, was twenty-four thousand in each company, or division.)
