After David built houses for himself in the City of David, he cleared a place for the Chest and pitched a tent for it. Then David gave orders: “No one carries the Chest of God except the Levites; God designated them and them only to carry the Chest of God and be available full time for service in the work of worship.”
Then David invited the people of Israel to Jerusalem for a parade celebrating the arrival of the covenant chest of the Eternal. David(to the assembly):Because of Uzza’s fiasco when we tried to move the chest three months ago, no one but the Levites may carry the covenant chest of God. The Eternal has selected them and them alone to bear it and to serve Him forever.
Then David said, It is unleaveful, that the ark of God be borne about of any others, no but of the deacons, which the Lord chose to bear it, and for to minister to him into without end. (Then David said, It is unlawful, for the Ark of God to be carried about by any others, except the Levites, whom the Lord hath chosen to carry it, and to serve him forevermore.)
