The names are similar to those in ch. 5, not because they represent variations of the same source, but to parallel and contrast the two offspring of Adam. The seventh from Adam through Cain and Seth, respectively the ungodly Lamech (vv. 19–24) and the godly Enoch (5:24), stand in sharp contrast to one another. The former inflicted death; the latter did not die.
