King Josiah leads the people in celebrating an incomparable Passover. Chronicle’s supplies more details regarding this feast than 2Ki 23:21-23. The report of Josiah’s concern for the Levites may indicate something of the chronicler’s own background and interests. The leaders provide offerings for the lay people. The celebration is unlike anything since premonarchic days (v.18). This statement could be an evaluation of the magnitude of religious fervor, which exceeds the Passovers of preceding kings. It might also refer to the enhanced role of the Levites in the feast, a shift that would be important for the postexilic community in which this group played a significant role.
