  1. They hired counselors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
  2. Then work stopped on God’s house which is at Jerusalem. It stopped until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
  3. But the eye of their God was on the elders of the Jews, and they didn’t make them cease, until the matter should come to Darius, and an answer should be returned by letter concerning it.

  7. May the God who has caused his name to dwell there overthrow all kings and peoples who stretch out their hand to alter this, to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree. Let it be done with all diligence.
  8. Then Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, Shetharbozenai, and their companions did accordingly with all diligence, because Darius the king had sent a decree.
  9. The elders of the Jews built and prospered, through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. They built and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the decree of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.
  10. This house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.
  11. As for the Levites, in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaddua, there were recorded the heads of fathers’ households; also the priests, in the reign of Darius the Persian.
  12. Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.
  13. It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred twenty local governors, who should be throughout the whole kingdom;
  14. Then these presidents and local governors assembled together to the king, and said this to him, “King Darius, live forever!
  15. Therefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
  16. Then king Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: “Peace be multiplied to you.
  17. So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
  18. In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the offspring of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans,
  19. “As for me, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to confirm and strengthen him.
  20. In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came by Haggai, the prophet, to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,
  21. in the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
  22. In the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,
  23. In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,
  24. On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,
  25. In the fourth year of king Darius, Yahweh’s word came to Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.
