Romans 15:8-13 Wycliffe Bible (WYC)

For I say, that Jesus Christ was a minister of circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises of fathers.

And heathen men owe to honour God for mercy; as it is written, Therefore, Lord, I shall acknowledge to thee among heathen men, and I shall sing to thy name.

10 And again he saith, Ye heathen men, be ye glad with his people. [And again he saith, Glad, or joy, ye heathen men with his people.]

11 And again, All heathen men, praise ye the Lord; and all peoples, magnify ye him.

12 And again Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, that shall rise up to govern heathen men [that shall rise to govern heathen men], and heathen men shall hope in him.

13 And God of hope full-fill you in all joy and peace in believing, that ye increase in hope and virtue of the Holy Ghost [that ye abound in hope and virtue of the Holy Ghost].

Romans 15:8-13 New Matthew Bible (NMB)

And I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers. And let the Gentiles praise God for his mercy, as it is written: For this cause I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing in your name. 10 And again he says: Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people! 11 And again: Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles, and laud him, all nations! 12 And in another place Isaiah says: The root of Jesse is to come, he who will rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may be rich in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

  1. Romans 15:8 An applying of the example of Christ to the Jews, whom he vouchsafed this honor for the promises which he made unto their fathers, although they were never so unworthy, that he executed the office of a minister amongst them with marvelous patience. Therefore much less ought the Gentiles despise them for certain faults, whom the Son of God so much esteemed.
  2. Romans 15:8 Of the circumcised Jews, for as long as he lived, he never went out of their quarters.
  3. Romans 15:8 That God might be seen to be true.
  4. Romans 15:9 An applying of the same to the Gentiles, whom also the Lord of his incomprehensible goodness had regard of, so that they are not to be condemned of the Jews as strangers.
  5. Romans 15:9 I will openly profess, and set forth thy Name.
  6. Romans 15:13 He sealeth up as it were all the former treatise with prayers, wishing all that to be given them of the Lord, that he had commanded them.
