and only reflect after making the promise.

⁸ do not bring^[a] hastily to court,
for what will you do in the end
if your neighbor puts you to shame?^(A)

⁸don’t be quick to quarrel over;
what will you do in the future when your neighbor shames you?

²⁰Do you see someone who speaks in haste?
There is more hope for a fool than for them.^(A)

²⁰Do you see people who are quick to speak?
There is more hope for fools than for them.
