19 Better to be poor and honest than rich^[a] and dishonest.

¹⁵My child,^[a] if your heart is wise,
my own heart will rejoice!
¹⁶Everything in me will celebrate
when you speak what is right.

^15-16My son, how I will rejoice if you become a man of common sense. Yes, my heart will thrill to your thoughtful, wise words.

24 Don’t envy evil people
or desire their company.
²For their hearts plot violence,
and their words always stir up trouble.
