Job 8:11-19 World English Bible (WEB)

11 “Can the papyrus grow up without mire?
    Can the rushes grow without water?
12 While it is yet in its greenness, not cut down,
    it withers before any other reed.
13 So are the paths of all who forget God.
    The hope of the godless man shall perish,
14 Whose confidence shall break apart,
    Whose trust is a spider’s web.
15 He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand.
    He shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.
16 He is green before the sun.
    His shoots go out along his garden.
17 His roots are wrapped around the rock pile.
    He sees the place of stones.
18 If he is destroyed from his place,
    then it shall deny him, saying, ‘I have not seen you.’
19 Behold, this is the joy of his way:
    out of the earth, others shall spring.

Job 8:11-19 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

11 “Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh?
Can the rushes grow without water?
12 “While it is still green and not cut down,
Yet it withers before any other [a]plant.
13 “So are the paths of all who forget God;
And the hope of the godless will perish,
14 Whose confidence is fragile,
And whose trust a spider’s [b]web.
15 “He [c]trusts in his house, but it does not stand;
He holds fast to it, but it does not endure.
16 “He [d]thrives before the sun,
And his shoots spread out over his garden.
17 “His roots wrap around a rock pile,
He [e]grasps a house of stones.
18 “If he is [f]removed from his place,
Then it will deny him, saying, ‘I never saw you.’
19 “Behold, this is the joy of His way;
And out of the dust others will spring.
