Jeremiah 42:1-4

New International Version

42 Then all the army officers, including Johanan^(A) son of Kareah and Jezaniah^[a] son of Hoshaiah,^(B) and all the people from the least to the greatest^(C) approached ²Jeremiah the prophet and said to him, “Please hear our petition and pray^(D) to the Lord your God for this entire remnant.^(E) For as you now see, though we were once many, now only a few^(F) are left. ³Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.”^(G)

⁴“I have heard you,” replied Jeremiah the prophet. “I will certainly pray^(H) to the Lord your God as you have requested; I will tell^(I) you everything the Lord says and will keep nothing back from you.”^(J)

42 Now all the captains of the forces, ^(A)Johanan the son of Kareah, Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people, from the least to the greatest, came near ²and said to Jeremiah the prophet, ^(B)“Please, let our petition be acceptable to you, and ^(C)pray for us to the Lord your God, for all this remnant (since we are left but ^(D)a few of many, as you can see), ³that the Lord your God may show us ^(E)the way in which we should walk and the thing we should do.”

⁴Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard. Indeed, I will pray to the Lord your God according to your words, and it shall be, that ^(F)whatever the Lord answers you, I will declare it to you. I will ^(G)keep nothing back from you.”
