Isaiah 27:2-13
Christian Standard Bible
The Lord’s Vineyard
2 On that day
sing about a desirable vineyard:(A)
3 I am the Lord, who watches over it
to water it regularly.
So that no one disturbs it,
I watch over it night and day.
4 I am not angry.
If only there were thorns and briers(B) for me to battle,
I would trample them
and burn them to the ground.
5 Or let it take hold of my strength;
let it make peace with me—
make peace with me.
6 In days to come, Jacob will take root.(C)
Israel will blossom and bloom(D)
and fill the whole world with fruit.
7 Did the Lord strike Israel
as he struck the one who struck Israel?(E)
Was Israel killed like those killed by the Lord?
8 You disputed with Israel
by banishing and driving her away.[a]
He removed her with his severe storm
on the day of the east wind.
9 Therefore Jacob’s iniquity(F) will be atoned for in this way,
and the result of the removal of his sin will be this:(G)
when he makes all the altar stones
like crushed bits of chalk,
no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing.
10 For the fortified city will be desolate,
pastures deserted and abandoned like a wilderness.
Calves will graze there,
and there they will spread out and strip its branches.
11 When its branches dry out, they will be broken off.
Women will come and make fires with them,
for they are not a people with understanding.(H)
Therefore their Maker(I) will not have compassion on them,
and their Creator will not be gracious to them.
12 On that day(J)
the Lord will thresh grain from the Euphrates River
as far as the Wadi of Egypt,(K)
and you Israelites will be gathered one by one.
13 On that day
a great ram’s horn(L) will be blown,
and those lost in the land of Assyria will come,
as well as those dispersed in the land of Egypt;
and they will worship the Lord
at Jerusalem on the holy mountain.

Isaiah 27:2-13
International Standard Version
2 At that time,[a]
“A fermenting[b] vineyard—
sing about it!
3 I, the Lord, watch over it
And I water it continuously.
I guard it night and day
so no one can harm it.
4 I am not angry.
If only the vineyard[c] could give me briers and thorns[d] to battle,
I would march against it,
and[e] I would burn it all up.
5 Or else let it lay claim to my protection;
let it make peace with me,
yes, let it make peace with me.”
6 In times to come, Jacob will take root,
and[f] Israel will blossom, sprout shoots,
and fill the whole world with fruit.
7 Has the Lord[g] struck them down,
just as he struck down those who struck them?
Or have they been killed,
just as their killers were killed?
8 Measure by measure,[h]
in their exile you contended with them;
with his fierce blast he removed them,
as on a day when the east wind blows.
9 By this, then, Jacob’s guilt will be atoned for,
and this will be the full harvest
that comes from the removal of his sin:
when he makes all the altar stones
like pulverized chalkstones,
no Asherah[i] poles or incense altars will be left standing.
10 For the fortified city stands desolate,
a settlement abandoned and forsaken like the desert;
calves graze there,
and there they lie down
and strip bare its branches.
11 When its branches are dry,
they are broken off,
and women come and kindle fires with them,
since this is a people who show no consideration.
That is why the One who made them shows them no compassion;
the One who created them shows them no mercy.
Assyria and Egypt Exiles Redeemed
12 At that time,[j] the Lord will winnow grain from the Euphrates River[k] channel to the Wadi[l] of Egypt,[m] and you will be gathered in one by one, O people of Israel. 13 Furthermore, at that time,[n] a great trumpet will be sounded, and those who were perishing in the land of Assyria and those who had been expelled[o] to the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord on his holy mountain at Jerusalem.
