And he said to me, “Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to (A)nations of rebels, who have rebelled against me. (B)They and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day. The descendants also are (C)impudent and stubborn: I send you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ And (D)whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are (E)a rebellious house) (F)they will know that a prophet has been among them. And you, son of man, (G)be not afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, (H)though briers and thorns are with you and you sit on (I)scorpions.[a] Be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house. And you shall speak my words to them, (J)whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house.

“But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. (K)Be not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and (L)eat what I give you.”

  1. Ezekiel 2:6 Or on scorpion plants

“Son of Man, I’m sending you to that rebellious people, the Israelis, who have rebelled against me the same way their ancestors did. And they’re still rebels[a] to this very day! They’re stubborn[b] and strong willed. I’m sending you to them to tell them what the Lord says. Whether this rebellious group[c] listens to you or not, at least[d] they’ll realize that a prophet had appeared in their midst!

“Now as for you, Son of Man, never be afraid of them or of anything they have to say, because being with them will be like settling down to live among briers, thorn bushes, and scorpions! Don’t be afraid of anything they have to say, and don’t be awed by their appearance, since they are a rebellious group.[e] You are to tell them whatever I have to say to them, whether they listen or not, since they are rebellious.”

The Vision of the Edible Scroll

“Son of Man, you are to listen to what I tell you. You are never to be rebellious like they are: a rebellious group.[f] Now, open your mouth and eat what I’m giving you…”
