The Death of Moses and the Commissioning of Joshua

34 Then Moses went up from the desert plateau[a] of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite[b] Jericho, and Yahweh showed him all of the land, Gilead all the way up to Dan, and all of Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh and all of the land of Judah, up to the western sea,[c] and the Negev and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palms, on up to Zoar. And Yahweh said to him, “This is the land that I swore to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob, saying,[d] ‘To your offspring I will give it.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross into it.”[e] Then Moses, the servant of Yahweh, died there in the land of Moab according to the command of Yahweh.[f] And he[g] buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth Peor. But until this day no one knows his burial site. Now Moses was a hundred and twenty years old[h] when he died;[i] his sight was not impaired and his vigor had not abated.[j] And the Israelites[k] wept concerning Moses thirty days; finally the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were completed.

Now[l] Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom because Moses had placed his hands on him, and the Israelites[m] listened to him, and they did as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 10 And not again[n] has a prophet arisen in Israel like Moses, whom Yahweh knew[o] face to face, 11 as far as all the signs and the wonders Yahweh sent him to do in the land of Egypt, against[p] Pharaoh and all of his servants and against[q] all of his land, 12 and as far as all of the mighty deeds[r] and as far as the great awesome wonders[s] Moses did before the eyes of all Israel.

The Death of Moses

34 (A)Now Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord (B)showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the [a](C)western sea, and the [b]Negev and the territory in the Valley of Jericho, (D)the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land which (E)I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your [c]descendants’; I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not go over there.” So Moses (F)the servant of the Lord (G)died there in the land of Moab, in accordance with the [d]word of the Lord. And He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, (H)opposite Beth-peor; but (I)no one knows his burial place to this day. Although Moses was (J)120 years old when he died, (K)his eyesight was not dim, nor had his vigor left him. So the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab for thirty days; then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end.

Now Joshua the son of Nun was (L)filled with the spirit of wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands on him; and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses. 10 Since that time (M)no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom (N)the Lord knew face to face, 11 for all the signs and wonders which the Lord sent him to perform in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, all his servants, and all his land— 12 and for all the mighty [e]power and all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.
