Jotham Reigns in Judah

32 In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, Jotham the son of Uzziah king of Judah began to reign. 33 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother was Jerusha the daughter of Zadok. 34 He did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that Uzziah his father had done. 35 Only the high places were not removed; the people still were sacrificing and offering incense on the high places. He built the upper gate of the temple of Yahweh. 36 Now the remainder of the acts of Jotham which he did, are they not written on the scroll of the events of the days of the kings of Judah? 37 (Now, in those days, Yahweh began to send Rezin the king of Aram and Pekah the son of Remaliah against Judah.) 38 So Jotham slept with his ancestors[a] and was buried with his ancestors[b] in the city of David his ancestor,[c] and his son Ahaz became king in his place.

Jotham’s Reign over Judah

32 In the second year of the reign of Israel’s King Pekah son of Remaliah, Uzziah’s son Jotham became king over Judah. 33 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother was Jerusha the daughter of Zadok. 34 He did what the Lord approved, just as his father Uzziah had done.[a] 35 But the high places were not eliminated; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense on the high places. He built the Upper Gate to the Lord’s temple.

36 The rest of the events of Jotham’s reign, including his accomplishments, are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Judah.[b] 37 In those days the Lord prompted King Rezin of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah to attack Judah.[c] 38 Jotham passed away[d] and was buried with his ancestors in the city of his ancestor David. His son Ahaz replaced him as king.
