1 Timothy 1:8-11 Wycliffe Bible (WYC)

And we know that the law is good, if any man use it lawfully;

and witting this thing, that the law is not set to a just man, but to unjust men and not subject, to wicked men and to sinners, to cursed men and defouled, to slayers of father, and slayers of mother, to manslayers [witting this thing, that the law is not put to a just man, but to an unjust and not subject, to unpious men and sinners, to cursed men and defouled, to slayers of fathers, and slayers of mothers, to menslayers]

10 and lechers, to them that do lechery with men, lying-mongers and forsworn, and if any other thing is contrary to the wholesome teaching,[a]

11 that is after the gospel of the glory of blessed God, which is betaken to me.

Footnotes:

  1. 1 Timothy 1:10 and fornicators, to them that trespass with males against kind, sellers, or stealers, of men, to lying-mongers and to forsworn men, and if any other thing is contrary to wholesome teaching,

1 Timothy 1:8-11 New Matthew Bible (NMB)

We know that the law is good if one abides by it lawfully, understanding that the law is not given for a righteous person, but for the unrighteous and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and unclean, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for man-slayers 10 and whoremongers, for those who defile themselves with menkind, for kidnappers, for liars and perjurers, and so forth, if there be any other thing that is contrary to wholesome precept, 11 according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which gospel is committed to me.

1 Timothy 1:8-11 1599 Geneva Bible (GNV)

[a]And we know, that the Law is good, if a man use it lawfully.

[b]Knowing this, that the Law is not given unto a [c]righteous man, but unto the lawless and disobedient, to the ungodly, and to [d]sinners, to the unholy, and to the profane, to murderers of fathers and mothers, to manslayers,

10 To whoremongers, to buggerers, to menstealers, to liars, to the perjured, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to wholesome doctrine,

11 [e]Which is according to the glorious Gospel of the blessed God, [f]which is committed unto me.

Footnotes:

  1. 1 Timothy 1:8 The taking away of an objection. He condemneth not the Law, but requireth the right use and practice of it.
  2. 1 Timothy 1:9 He indeed escapeth the curse of the Law, and therefore doth not abhor it, who fleeing and eschewing those things which the Law condemneth, giveth himself with all his heart to observe it: and not he that maketh a vain babbling of outward and curious matters.
  3. 1 Timothy 1:9 And such a one is he, whom the Lord hath endued with true doctrine, and with the holy Ghost.
  4. 1 Timothy 1:9 To such as make an art as it were of sinning.
  5. 1 Timothy 1:11 He setteth against fond and vain babbling, not only the Law, but the Gospel also, which condemneth not, but greatly commendeth the wholesome doctrine contained in the commandments of God, and therefore he calleth it a glorious Gospel, and the Gospel of the blessed God, the virtue whereof these babblers knew not.
  6. 1 Timothy 1:11 A reason why neither any other Gospel is to be taught than he hath taught in the Church, neither after any other sort, because there is no other Gospel besides that which God committed to him.

1 Timothy 1:8-11 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10 for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; 11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
