1 Chronicles 23:2-6

New International Version

²He also gathered together all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites. ³The Levites thirty years old or more^(A) were counted,^(B) and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand.^(C) ⁴David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand are to be in charge^(D) of the work^(E) of the temple of the Lord and six thousand are to be officials and judges.^(F) ⁵Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the Lord with the musical instruments^(G) I have provided for that purpose.”^(H)

⁶David separated^(I) the Levites into divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi:^(J) Gershon, Kohath and Merari.

²David^[a] assembled all the leaders of Israel and the priests and the Levites. ³The Levites, ^(A)thirty years old and upward, were numbered, and ^(B)the total was ^(C)38,000 men. ⁴“Twenty-four thousand of these,” David said,^[b] ^(D)“shall have charge of the work in the house of the Lord, 6,000 shall be ^(E)officers and judges, ⁵4,000 gatekeepers, and 4,000 shall offer praises to the Lord with the instruments ^(F)that I have made for praise.” ⁶^(G)And David organized them in divisions ^(H)corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
