The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree^(A)

^20 (B)Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. ²¹ And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”

²² So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. ²³ For ^(C)assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. ²⁴ Therefore I say to you, ^(D)whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

Forgiveness and Prayer^(E)

²⁵ “And whenever you stand praying, ^(F)if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.

Faith Triumphs in Trouble

5 Therefore, ^(A)having been justified by faith, ^[a]we have ^(B)peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, ^2 (C)through whom also we have access by faith into this grace ^(D)in which we stand, and ^(E)rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

⁶ But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:

Humility Cures Worldliness

⁷ Therefore submit to God. ^(B)Resist the devil and he will flee from you. ^8 (C)Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. ^(D)Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and ^(E)purify your hearts, you double-minded. ^9 (F)Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. ^10 (G)Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
