The Beast from the Sea

13 Then [a]I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw (A)a beast rising up out of the sea, (B)having [b]seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a (C)blasphemous name. Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The (D)dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads (E)as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And (F)all the world marveled and followed the beast. So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, (G)“Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

And he was given (H)a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to [c]continue for (I)forty-two months. Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, (J)His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. It was granted to him (K)to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And (L)authority was given him over every [d]tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, (M)whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain (N)from the foundation of the world.

(O)If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 (P)He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; (Q)he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. (R)Here is the [e]patience and the faith of the saints.

The Beast from the Earth

11 Then I saw another beast (S)coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. 12 And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, (T)whose deadly wound was healed. 13 (U)He performs great signs, (V)so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. 14 (W)And he deceives [f]those who dwell on the earth (X)by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword (Y)and lived. 15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak (Z)and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, (AA)to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has [g]the mark or (AB)the name of the beast, (AC)or the number of his name.

18 (AD)Here is wisdom. Let him who has (AE)understanding calculate (AF)the number of the beast, (AG)for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.

The Lamb and the 144,000

14 Then I looked, and behold, [h]a (AH)Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him (AI)one hundred and forty-four thousand, [i]having His Father’s name (AJ)written on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, (AK)like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. And I heard the sound of (AL)harpists playing their harps. They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders; and no one could learn that song (AM)except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth. These are the ones who were not defiled with women, (AN)for they are virgins. These are the ones (AO)who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These (AP)were [j]redeemed from among men, (AQ)being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. And (AR)in their mouth was found no [k]deceit, for (AS)they are without fault [l]before the throne of God.

The Proclamations of Three Angels

Then I saw another angel (AT)flying in the midst of heaven, (AU)having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth—(AV)to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people— saying with a loud voice, (AW)“Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; (AX)and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”

And another angel followed, saying, (AY)“Babylon[m] is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because (AZ)she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”

Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, (BA)“If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his (BB)mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he himself (BC)shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is (BD)poured out full strength into (BE)the cup of His indignation. (BF)He shall be tormented with (BG)fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And (BH)the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

12 (BI)Here is the [n]patience of the saints; (BJ)here[o] are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying [p]to me, “Write: (BK)‘Blessed are the dead (BL)who die in the Lord from now on.’ ”

“Yes,” says the Spirit, (BM)“that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow (BN)them.”

Reaping the Earth’s Harvest

14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. 15 And another angel (BO)came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, (BP)“Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come [q]for You to reap, for the harvest (BQ)of the earth is ripe.” 16 So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

Reaping the Grapes of Wrath

17 Then another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.

18 And another angel came out from the altar, (BR)who had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, (BS)“Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe.” 19 So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into (BT)the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And (BU)the winepress was trampled (BV)outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, (BW)up to the horses’ bridles, for one thousand six hundred [r]furlongs.

Prelude to the Bowl Judgments

15 Then (BX)I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: (BY)seven angels having the seven last plagues, (BZ)for in them the wrath of God is complete.

And I saw something like (CA)a sea of glass (CB)mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, (CC)over his image and [s]over his mark and over the (CD)number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, (CE)having harps of God. They sing (CF)the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the (CG)Lamb, saying:

(CH)“Great and marvelous are Your works,
Lord God Almighty!
(CI)Just and true are Your ways,
O King of the [t]saints!
(CJ)Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name?
For You alone are (CK)holy.
For (CL)all nations shall come and worship before You,
For Your judgments have been manifested.”

After these things I looked, and [u]behold, (CM)the [v]temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened. And out of the [w]temple came the seven angels having the seven plagues, (CN)clothed in pure bright linen, and having their chests girded with golden bands. (CO)Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God (CP)who lives forever and ever. (CQ)The temple was filled with smoke (CR)from the glory of God and from His power, and no one was able to enter the temple till the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.

The Beast out of the Sea

13 The dragon[a] stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea.(A) It had ten horns and seven heads,(B) with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name.(C) The beast I saw resembled a leopard,(D) but had feet like those of a bear(E) and a mouth like that of a lion.(F) The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority.(G) One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed.(H) The whole world was filled with wonder(I) and followed the beast. People worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, “Who is like(J) the beast? Who can wage war against it?”

The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies(K) and to exercise its authority for forty-two months.(L) It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven.(M) It was given power to wage war(N) against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.(O) All inhabitants of the earth(P) will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life,(Q) the Lamb(R) who was slain from the creation of the world.[b](S)

Whoever has ears, let them hear.(T)

10 “If anyone is to go into captivity,
    into captivity they will go.
If anyone is to be killed[c] with the sword,
with the sword they will be killed.”[d](U)

This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness(V) on the part of God’s people.(W)

The Beast out of the Earth

11 Then I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth.(X) It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon.(Y) 12 It exercised all the authority(Z) of the first beast on its behalf,(AA) and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast,(AB) whose fatal wound had been healed.(AC) 13 And it performed great signs,(AD) even causing fire to come down from heaven(AE) to the earth in full view of the people. 14 Because of the signs(AF) it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived(AG) the inhabitants of the earth.(AH) It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.(AI) 15 The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship(AJ) the image to be killed.(AK) 16 It also forced all people, great and small,(AL) rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads,(AM) 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark,(AN) which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.(AO)

18 This calls for wisdom.(AP) Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.[e](AQ) That number is 666.

The Lamb and the 144,000

14 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb,(AR) standing on Mount Zion,(AS) and with him 144,000(AT) who had his name and his Father’s name(AU) written on their foreheads.(AV) And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters(AW) and like a loud peal of thunder.(AX) The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps.(AY) And they sang a new song(AZ) before the throne and before the four living creatures(BA) and the elders.(BB) No one could learn the song except the 144,000(BC) who had been redeemed from the earth. These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins.(BD) They follow the Lamb wherever he goes.(BE) They were purchased from among mankind(BF) and offered as firstfruits(BG) to God and the Lamb. No lie was found in their mouths;(BH) they are blameless.(BI)

The Three Angels

Then I saw another angel flying in midair,(BJ) and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth(BK)—to every nation, tribe, language and people.(BL) He said in a loud voice, “Fear God(BM) and give him glory,(BN) because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made(BO) the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”(BP)

A second angel followed and said, “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,’[f](BQ) which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”(BR)

A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast(BS) and its image(BT) and receives its mark on their forehead(BU) or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury,(BV) which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath.(BW) They will be tormented with burning sulfur(BX) in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever.(BY) There will be no rest day or night(BZ) for those who worship the beast and its image,(CA) or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”(CB) 12 This calls for patient endurance(CC) on the part of the people of God(CD) who keep his commands(CE) and remain faithful to Jesus.

13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord(CF) from now on.”

“Yes,” says the Spirit,(CG) “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”

Harvesting the Earth and Trampling the Winepress

14 I looked, and there before me was a white cloud,(CH) and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man[g](CI) with a crown(CJ) of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 Then another angel came out of the temple(CK) and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle(CL) and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest(CM) of the earth is ripe.” 16 So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.

17 Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle.(CN) 18 Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar(CO) and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, “Take your sharp sickle(CP) and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine, because its grapes are ripe.” 19 The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.(CQ) 20 They were trampled in the winepress(CR) outside the city,(CS) and blood(CT) flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.[h]

Seven Angels With Seven Plagues

15 I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign:(CU) seven angels(CV) with the seven last plagues(CW)—last, because with them God’s wrath is completed. And I saw what looked like a sea of glass(CX) glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious(CY) over the beast(CZ) and its image(DA) and over the number of its name.(DB) They held harps(DC) given them by God and sang the song of God’s servant(DD) Moses(DE) and of the Lamb:(DF)

“Great and marvelous are your deeds,(DG)
    Lord God Almighty.(DH)
Just and true are your ways,(DI)
    King of the nations.[i]
Who will not fear you, Lord,(DJ)
and bring glory to your name?(DK)
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
    and worship before you,(DL)
for your righteous acts(DM) have been revealed.”[j]

After this I looked, and I saw in heaven the temple(DN)—that is, the tabernacle of the covenant law(DO)—and it was opened.(DP) Out of the temple(DQ) came the seven angels with the seven plagues.(DR) They were dressed in clean, shining linen(DS) and wore golden sashes around their chests.(DT) Then one of the four living creatures(DU) gave to the seven angels(DV) seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God, who lives for ever and ever.(DW) And the temple was filled with smoke(DX) from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the temple(DY) until the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.
