Psalm 39:7-13

New International Version

⁷ “But now, Lord, what do I look for?
    My hope is in you.^(A)
8 Save me^(B) from all my transgressions;^(C)
    do not make me the scorn^(D) of fools.
⁹ I was silent;^(E) I would not open my mouth,^(F)
    for you are the one who has done this.^(G)
10 Remove your scourge from me;
    I am overcome by the blow^(H) of your hand.^(I)
11 When you rebuke^(J) and discipline^(K) anyone for their sin,
    you consume^(L) their wealth like a moth^(M)—
    surely everyone is but a breath.^(N)

¹² “Hear my prayer, Lord,
    listen to my cry for help;^(O)
    do not be deaf^(P) to my weeping.^(Q)
I dwell with you as a foreigner,^(R)
    a stranger,^(S) as all my ancestors were.^(T)
13 Look away from me, that I may enjoy life again
    before I depart and am no more.”^(U)
