Isaiah 56-66 New International Version (NIV)
Salvation for Others
56 This is what the Lord says:
3 Let no foreigner who is bound to the Lord say,
4 For this is what the Lord says:
“To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,
God’s Accusation Against the Wicked
9 Come, all you beasts of the field,
57 The righteous perish,
3 “But you—come here, you children of a sorceress,
11 “Whom have you so dreaded and feared
Comfort for the Contrite
14 And it will be said:
“Build up, build up, prepare the road!
58 “Shout it aloud, do not hold back.
“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
13 “If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath
Sin, Confession and Redemption
59 Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save,
9 So justice is far from us,
12 For our offenses are many in your sight,
The Lord looked and was displeased
20 “The Redeemer will come to Zion,
21 “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.
The Glory of Zion
60 “Arise, shine, for your light has come,
4 “Lift up your eyes and look about you:
8 “Who are these that fly along like clouds,
10 “Foreigners will rebuild your walls,
13 “The glory of Lebanon will come to you,
15 “Although you have been forsaken and hated,
The Year of the Lord’s Favor
61 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins
7 Instead of your shame
8 “For I, the Lord, love justice;
10 I delight greatly in the Lord;
Zion’s New Name
62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem;
8 The Lord has sworn by his right hand
10 Pass through, pass through the gates!
11 The Lord has made proclamation
God’s Day of Vengeance and Redemption
63 Who is this coming from Edom,
“It is I, proclaiming victory,
2 Why are your garments red,
3 “I have trodden the winepress alone;
Praise and Prayer
7 I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord,
11 Then his people recalled[j] the days of old,
15 Look down from heaven and see,
64 [l]Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down,
8 Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
Judgment and Salvation
65 “I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me;
6 “See, it stands written before me:
8 This is what the Lord says:
“As when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes
11 “But as for you who forsake the Lord
13 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“My servants will eat,
New Heavens and a New Earth
17 “See, I will create
20 “Never again will there be in it
Judgment and Hope
66 This is what the Lord says:
“Heaven is my throne,
“These are the ones I look on with favor:
5 Hear the word of the Lord,
7 “Before she goes into labor,
12 For this is what the Lord says:
“I will extend peace to her like a river,
14 When you see this, your heart will rejoice
17 “Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs, rats and other unclean things—they will meet their end together with the one they follow,” declares the Lord.
18 “And I, because of what they have planned and done, am about to come[o] and gather the people of all nations and languages, and they will come and see my glory.
19 “I will set a sign among them, and I will send some of those who survive to the nations—to Tarshish, to the Libyans[p] and Lydians (famous as archers), to Tubal and Greece, and to the distant islands that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory. They will proclaim my glory among the nations. 20 And they will bring all your people, from all the nations, to my holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to the Lord—on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels,” says the Lord. “They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to the temple of the Lord in ceremonially clean vessels. 21 And I will select some of them also to be priests and Levites,” says the Lord.
22 “As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me,” declares the Lord, “so will your name and descendants endure. 23 From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,” says the Lord. 24 “And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”
