¹⁶ These are the things that you shall do: ^(A)Speak the truth to one another; ^(B)render in your gates judgments ^(C)that are true and make for peace;

⁹ “Thus says the Lord of hosts, ^(A)Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another,

²⁵ Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you ^(A)speak the truth with his neighbor, for ^(B)we are members one of another.

⁸ Bear fruits ^(A)in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ^(B)‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from ^(C)these stones to raise up children for Abraham. ⁹ Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. ^(D)Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

¹⁰ And the crowds asked him, ^(E)“What then shall we do?” ¹¹ And he answered them, ^(F)“Whoever has two tunics^[a] is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” ^12 (G)Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, ^(H)what shall we do?” ¹³ And he said to them, ^(I)“Collect no more than you are authorized to do.” ¹⁴ Soldiers also asked him, “And we, ^(J)what shall we do?” And he said to them, ^(K)“Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your ^(L)wages.”

¹⁹ “Thus says the Lord of hosts: The fast of the ^(A)fourth month and the fast of the ^(B)fifth and the fast of the ^(C)seventh and the fast of the ^(D)tenth shall be to the house of Judah ^(E)seasons of joy and gladness and cheerful feasts. Therefore love ^(F)truth and peace.
