Boaz Redeems Ruth

4 Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, ^(A)the close relative of whom Boaz had spoken came by. So Boaz said, “Come aside, ^[a]friend, sit down here.” So he came aside and sat down.

¹² Now it is true that I am a ^(A)close relative; however, ^(B)there is a relative closer than I.

⁷ But if the man does not want to take his brother’s wife, then let his brother’s wife go up to the ^(A)gate to the elders, and say, ‘My husband’s brother refuses to raise up a name to his brother in Israel; he will not perform the duty of my husband’s brother.’

Justice Must Be Administered

¹⁸ “You shall appoint ^(A)judges and officers in all your ^[a]gates, which the Lord your God gives you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

¹⁹ then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city.
