¹⁴ At mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come over here. Have some bread^(A) and dip it in the wine vinegar.”

When she sat down with the harvesters,^(B) he offered her some roasted grain.^(C) She ate all she wanted and had some left over.^(D)

¹⁸ She carried it back to town, and her mother-in-law saw how much she had gathered. Ruth also brought out and gave her what she had left over^(A) after she had eaten enough.

¹² Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. ¹³ But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,^{(A) 14} and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”^(B)

²⁰ They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

⁴³ “How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked.

But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat.^(A) For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.^(B)’” ⁴⁴ Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.

¹⁰ When you have eaten and are satisfied,^(A) praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.
