³ What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”^[a](A)

⁴ Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift^(B) but as an obligation. ⁵ However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.^(C)

⁶ So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”^[a](A)

⁷ Understand, then, that those who have faith^(B) are children of Abraham.^{(C) 8} Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”^{[b](D) 9} So those who rely on faith^(E) are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.^(F)
