17 and if children, then (A)heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, (B)provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

Future Glory

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (C)are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for (D)the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation (E)was subjected to futility, not willingly, but (F)because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that (G)the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that (H)the whole creation (I)has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have (J)the firstfruits of the Spirit, (K)groan inwardly as (L)we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, (M)the redemption of our bodies. 24 For (N)in this hope we were saved. Now (O)hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we (P)wait for it with patience.

26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For (Q)we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but (R)the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And (S)he who searches hearts knows what is (T)the mind of the Spirit, because[a] the Spirit (U)intercedes for the saints (V)according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together (W)for good,[b] for (X)those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he (Y)foreknew he also (Z)predestined (AA)to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be (AB)the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also (AC)justified, and those whom he justified he also (AD)glorified.

God's Everlasting Love

31 What then shall we say to these things? (AE)If God is for us, who can be[c] against us? 32 (AF)He who did not spare his own Son but (AG)gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? (AH)It is God who justifies. 34 (AI)Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—(AJ)who is at the right hand of God, (AK)who indeed is interceding for us.[d] 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

(AL)“For your sake (AM)we are being killed all the day long;
    we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than (AN)conquerors through (AO)him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Present Suffering and Future Glory

18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.(D) 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God(E) to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it,(F) in hope 21 that[a] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay(G) and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.(H)

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning(I) as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit,(J) groan(K) inwardly as we wait eagerly(L) for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.(M) 24 For in this hope we were saved.(N) But hope that is seen is no hope at all.(O) Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.(P)

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit(Q) himself intercedes for us(R) through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts(S) knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes(T) for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good(U) of those who love him, who[b] have been called(V) according to his purpose.(W) 29 For those God foreknew(X) he also predestined(Y) to be conformed to the image of his Son,(Z) that he might be the firstborn(AA) among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined,(AB) he also called;(AC) those he called, he also justified;(AD) those he justified, he also glorified.(AE)

More Than Conquerors

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things?(AF) If God is for us,(AG) who can be against us?(AH) 32 He who did not spare his own Son,(AI) but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge(AJ) against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns?(AK) No one. Christ Jesus who died(AL)—more than that, who was raised to life(AM)—is at the right hand of God(AN) and is also interceding for us.(AO) 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?(AP) Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?(AQ) 36 As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[c](AR)

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors(AS) through him who loved us.(AT) 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[d] neither the present nor the future,(AU) nor any powers,(AV) 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God(AW) that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.(AX)
