18 And (A)having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness [a]for holiness.

20 For when you were (B)slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 (C)What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For (D)the end of those things is death. 22 But now (E)having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit [b]to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

18 and after being (A)freed from sin, you became slaves to righteousness. 19 (B)I am speaking [a]in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just (C)as you presented [b]the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, [c]resulting in further lawlessness, so now present [d]your body’s parts as slaves to righteousness, [e]resulting in sanctification.

20 For (D)when you were slaves of sin, you were free in relation to righteousness. 21 Therefore what [f](E)benefit were you then [g]deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is (F)death. 22 But now having been (G)freed from sin and (H)enslaved to God, you [h]derive your [i](I)benefit, [j]resulting in sanctification, and (J)the outcome, eternal life.

18 You have been set free from sin(A) and have become slaves to righteousness.(B)

19 I am using an example from everyday life(C) because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness(D) leading to holiness. 20 When you were slaves to sin,(E) you were free from the control of righteousness.(F) 21 What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!(G) 22 But now that you have been set free from sin(H) and have become slaves of God,(I) the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.(J)

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
