¹⁶ For I am not ^(A)ashamed of the gospel, for ^(B)it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the ^(C)Jew first and also to ^(D)the Greek. ¹⁷ For in it ^(E)the righteousness of God is revealed ^[a]from faith to faith; as it is written: “^[b](F)But the righteous one will live by faith.”

²⁶ for the demonstration, that is, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who ^[a]has faith in Jesus.

¹³ For ^(A)the promise to Abraham or to his ^[a]descendants ^(B)that he would be heir of the world was not ^[b]through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith. ¹⁴ For ^(C)if those who are ^[c]of the Law are heirs, then faith is made void and the promise is nullified;

²² Therefore ^(A)it was also credited to him as righteousness. ²³ Now ^(B)not for his sake only was it written that it was credited to him, ²⁴ but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, to us ^(C)who believe in Him who ^(D)raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,

³ Or do you not know that all of us who have been ^(A)baptized into ^(B)Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? ⁴ Therefore we have been ^(C)buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was ^(D)raised from the dead through the ^(E)glory of the Father, so we too may walk in ^(F)newness of life.

¹⁷ But ^(A)thanks be to God that ^[a]though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that ^[b](B)form of teaching to which you were entrusted, ¹⁸ and after being ^(C)freed from sin, you became slaves to righteousness. ^19 (D)I am speaking ^[c]in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just ^(E)as you presented ^[d]the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, ^[e]resulting in further lawlessness, so now present ^[f]your body’s parts as slaves to righteousness, ^[g]resulting in sanctification.

²⁰ For ^(F)when you were slaves of sin, you were free in relation to righteousness. ²¹ Therefore what ^[h](G)benefit were you then ^[i]deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is ^(H)death. ²² But now having been ^(I)freed from sin and ^(J)enslaved to God, you ^[j]derive your ^[k](K)benefit, ^[l]resulting in sanctification, and ^(L)the outcome, eternal life.

⁵ For those who are in accord with the flesh set their minds on ^(A)the things of the flesh, but those who are in accord with the Spirit, ^(B)the things of the Spirit. ^6 (C)For the mind ^[a]set on the flesh is ^(D)death, but the mind ^[b]set on the Spirit is life and peace, ⁷ because the mind ^[c]set on the flesh is ^(E)hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, ⁸ and those who are ^(F)in the flesh cannot please God.

⁹ However, you are not ^(A)in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God ^(B)dwells in you. But ^(C)if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. ^10 (D)If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is ^[a]alive because of righteousness.

¹² So then, brothers and sisters, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— ¹³ for ^(A)if you are living in accord with the flesh, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you are ^(B)putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. ¹⁴ For all who are ^(C)being led by the Spirit of God, these are ^(D)sons and daughters of God.
