^21 (A)Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump ^(B)one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use?

²⁰ Now in ^(A)a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, ^(B)some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. ²¹ Therefore, ^(C)if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable,^[a] he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ^(D)ready for every good work.

¹⁵ But the Lord said to him, “Go, for ^(A)he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name ^(B)before the Gentiles and ^(C)kings and the children of Israel.

³ So I went down to ^(A)the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. ⁴ And the vessel he was making of clay was ^(B)spoiled in the potter's hand, and ^(C)he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do.

⁵ Then the word of the Lord came to me: ⁶ “O house of Israel, ^(D)can I not do with you as this potter has done? declares the Lord. ^(E)Behold, like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

²² What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience ^(A)vessels of wrath ^(B)prepared for destruction, ²³ in order to make known ^(C)the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he ^(D)has prepared beforehand for glory—

¹¹ though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad—in order that God's purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of ^(A)him who calls—

¹⁸ So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.
