Present Suffering and Future Glory

¹⁸ I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.^(A)

¹⁷ For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.^{(A) 18} So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen,^(B) since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

¹³ But rejoice^(A) inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ,^(B) so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.^(C)

⁵ who through faith are shielded by God’s power^(A) until the coming of the salvation^(B) that is ready to be revealed^(C) in the last time. ⁶ In all this you greatly rejoice,^(D) though now for a little while^(E) you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.^{(F) 7} These have come so that the proven genuineness^(G) of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire^(H)—may result in praise, glory and honor^(I) when Jesus Christ is revealed.^(J)

²⁴ However, I consider my life worth nothing to me;^(A) my only aim is to finish the race^(B) and complete the task^(C) the Lord Jesus has given me^(D)—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.^(E)

² Dear friends,^(A) now we are children of God,^(B) and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears,^[a](C) we shall be like him,^(D) for we shall see him as he is.^(E)

²⁵ He chose to be mistreated^(A) along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. ²⁶ He regarded disgrace^(B) for the sake of Christ^(C) as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.^(D)

⁴ When Christ, who is your^[a] life,^(A) appears,^(B) then you also will appear with him in glory.^(C)

Be Holy

¹³ Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober,^(A) set your hope^(B) on the grace to be brought to you^(C) when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.^(D)
