¹⁴ I am obligated^(A) both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.

¹¹ Here there is no Gentile or Jew,^(A) circumcised or uncircumcised,^(B) barbarian, Scythian, slave or free,^(C) but Christ is all,^(D) and is in all.

¹⁷ I will rescue you^(A) from your own people and from the Gentiles.^(B) I am sending you to them ¹⁸ to open their eyes^(C) and turn them from darkness to light,^(D) and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins^(E) and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’^(F)

¹⁵ But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument^(A) to proclaim my name to the Gentiles^(B) and their kings^(C) and to the people of Israel.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that comes from heaven^(A) is first of all pure; then peace-loving,^(B) considerate, submissive, full of mercy^(C) and good fruit, impartial and sincere.^{(D) 18} Peacemakers^(E) who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.^(F)

¹⁰ Therefore I endure everything^(A) for the sake of the elect,^(B) that they too may obtain the salvation^(C) that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.^(D)

¹⁶ For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach.^(A) Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! ¹⁷ If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward;^(B) if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.^{(C) 18} What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge,^(D) and so not make full use of my rights^(E) as a preacher of the gospel.

Paul’s Use of His Freedom

¹⁹ Though I am free^(F) and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone,^(G) to win as many as possible.^{(H) 20} To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews.^(I) To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law),^(J) so as to win those under the law. ²¹ To those not having the law I became like one not having the law^(K) (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law),^(L) so as to win those not having the law. ²² To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.^(M) I have become all things to all people^(N) so that by all possible means I might save some.^{(O) 23} I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

²¹ “Then the Lord said to me, ‘Go; I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’ ”^(A)

² While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,^(A) “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work^(B) to which I have called them.”^{(C) 3} So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them^(D) and sent them off.^(E)
