⁸But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.^(A)

⁸But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

⁹This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son^(A) into the world that we might live through him.^(B)

⁹In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

¹⁰This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us^(A) and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.^(B)
