The Beast from the Sea

13 And the dragon stood on the sand of the ^[a]seashore.

Then I saw a ^(A)beast coming up out of the sea, having ^(B)ten horns and ^(C)seven heads, and on his horns were ^(D)ten crowns, and on his heads were ^(E)blasphemous names. ² And the beast that I saw was ^(F)like a leopard, and his feet were like those of ^(G)a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of ^(H)a lion. And the ^(I)dragon gave him his power and his ^(J)throne, and great authority.

³ And ^(A)he carried me away ^[a](B)in the Spirit ^(C)into a wilderness; and I saw a woman sitting on a ^(D)scarlet beast, full of ^(E)blasphemous names, having ^(F)seven heads and ten horns.

⁴¹ And in that you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, it will be a divided kingdom; but it will have within it some of the toughness of iron, since you saw the iron mixed with ^[a]common clay. ⁴² And just as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of pottery, so some of the kingdom will be strong, and part of it will be fragile. ⁴³ In that you saw the iron mixed with ^[b]common clay, they will combine with one another ^[c]in ^[d]their descendants; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not combine with pottery.

⁷ After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a ^(A)fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and extremely strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed, and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ^(B)ten horns. ⁸ While I was thinking about the horns, behold, ^(C)another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the previous horns were plucked out before it; and behold, ^[a]this horn possessed eyes like human eyes, and ^(D)a mouth uttering great boasts.

²³ “This is what he said: ‘The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth which will be different from all the other kingdoms, and will devour the whole earth and trample it down and crush it. ²⁴ As for the ^(A)ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will ^[a]humble three kings.

¹³ But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was standing ^[a]in my way for twenty-one days; then behold, ^(A)Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.
