The Great Multitude in White Robes

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language,(A) standing before the throne(B) and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes(C) and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:

“Salvation belongs to our God,(D)
who sits on the throne,(E)
and to the Lamb.”

11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders(F) and the four living creatures.(G) They fell down on their faces(H) before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:

“Amen!
Praise and glory
and wisdom and thanks and honor
and power and strength
be to our God for ever and ever.
Amen!”(I)

13 Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes(J)—who are they, and where did they come from?”

14 I answered, “Sir, you know.”

And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes(K) and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.(L) 15 Therefore,

“they are before the throne of God(M)
and serve him(N) day and night in his temple;(O)
and he who sits on the throne(P)
will shelter them with his presence.(Q)
16 ‘Never again will they hunger;
    never again will they thirst.(R)
The sun will not beat down on them,’[a]
    nor any scorching heat.(S)
17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne
    will be their shepherd;(T)
‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’[b](U)
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’[c](V)

The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer

When he opened the seventh seal,(W) there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

And I saw the seven angels(X) who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.(Y)

Another angel,(Z) who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people,(AA) on the golden altar(AB) in front of the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God(AC) from the angel’s hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar,(AD) and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder,(AE) rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.(AF)

The Trumpets

Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets(AG) prepared to sound them.

The first angel(AH) sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire(AI) mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth. A third(AJ) of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.(AK)

The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain,(AL) all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third(AM) of the sea turned into blood,(AN) a third(AO) of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

10 The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky(AP) on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water(AQ) 11 the name of the star is Wormwood.[d] A third(AR) of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.(AS)

12 The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third(AT) of them turned dark.(AU) A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.(AV)

13 As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair(AW) call out in a loud voice: “Woe! Woe! Woe(AX) to the inhabitants of the earth,(AY) because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”
