18 and were (A)crying out as they (B)saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘(C)What city is like (D)the great city?’ 19 And they threw (E)dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘(F)Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea (G)became rich by her [a]wealth, for in (H)one hour she has been laid (I)waste!’ 20 (J)Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you [b]saints and (K)apostles and prophets, because (L)God has [c]pronounced judgment for you against her.”
21 Then [d]a (M)strong angel (N)took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “So will Babylon, (O)the great city, be thrown down with violence, and (P)will not be found any longer. 22 And (Q)the sound of harpists and musicians and flute-players and trumpeters will not be heard in you any longer; and no craftsman of any craft will be found in you any longer; and the (R)sound of a mill will not be heard in you any longer; 23 and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; and the (S)voice of the bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you any longer; for your (T)merchants were the great men of the earth, because all the nations were deceived (U)by your sorcery. 24 And in her was found the (V)blood of prophets and of [e]saints and of (W)all who have been slain on the earth.”Read full chapter

The Finality of Babylon’s Doom
“With such violence
the great city(L) of Babylon will be thrown down,
never to be found again.
22 The music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters,
will never be heard in you again.(M)
No worker of any trade
will ever be found in you again.
The sound of a millstone
will never be heard in you again.(N)
23 The light of a lamp
will never shine in you again.
The voice of bridegroom and bride
will never be heard in you again.(O)
Your merchants were the world’s important people.(P)
By your magic spell(Q) all the nations were led astray.
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people,(R)
