⁵ They were not allowed to kill them but only to torture them for five months.^(A) And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion^(B) when it strikes.

¹⁰ They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months.^(A)

³ And out of the smoke locusts^(A) came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions^(B) of the earth.

⁶ The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands;^(A) but you must spare his life.”^(B)

⁷ It was given power to wage war^(A) against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.^(B)

⁵ The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies^(A) and to exercise its authority for forty-two months.^(B)

⁷ Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast^(A) that comes up from the Abyss^(B) will attack them,^(C) and overpower and kill them.

¹¹ Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.^(A) Therefore the one who handed me over to you^(B) is guilty of a greater sin.”

¹⁸ “Your Majesty, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar^(A) sovereignty and greatness and glory and splendor.^{(B) 19} Because of the high position he gave him, all the nations and peoples of every language dreaded and feared him. Those the king wanted to put to death, he put to death;^(C) those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to promote, he promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled.^{(D) 20} But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride,^(E) he was deposed from his royal throne^(F) and stripped^(G) of his glory.^{(H) 21} He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like the ox; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign^(I) over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.^(J)

²² “But you, Belshazzar, his son,^[a] have not humbled^(K) yourself, though you knew all this.
