² Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works ^(A)complete in the sight of my God.

^8 (A)Be sober-minded; ^(B)be watchful. Your ^(C)adversary the devil ^(D)prowls around ^(E)like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

^7 (A)The end of all things is at hand; therefore ^(B)be self-controlled and sober-minded ^(C)for the sake of your prayers.

Preach the Word

4 ^(A)I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, ^(B)who is to judge the living and the dead, and by ^(C)his appearing and his kingdom: ² preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; ^(D)reprove, rebuke, and ^(E)exhort, with complete patience and teaching. ^3 (F)For the time is coming when people will not endure ^(G)sound^[a] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, ⁴ and ^(H)will turn away from listening to the truth and ^(I)wander off into myths.

^28 (A)Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all ^(B)the flock, in which ^(C)the Holy Spirit has made you ^(D)overseers, ^(E)to care for ^(F)the church of God,^[a] which he ^(G)obtained ^(H)with his own blood.^{[b] 29} I ^(I)know that after my departure ^(J)fierce wolves will come in among you, ^(K)not sparing the flock; ³⁰ and ^(L)from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. ³¹ Therefore ^(M)be alert, remembering that ^(N)for three years I did not cease night or day ^(O)to admonish every one ^(P)with tears.

^33 (A)Be on guard, ^(B)keep awake.^[a] For you do not know when the time will come. ^34 (C)It is like a man ^(D)going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants^[b] in charge, ^(E)each with his work, and commands ^(F)the doorkeeper to stay awake. ^35 (G)Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, ^(H)in the evening, or ^(I)at midnight, or ^(J)when the rooster crows,^[c] or ^(K)in the morning— ³⁶ lest ^(L)he come suddenly and ^(M)find you asleep. ³⁷ And what I say to you I say to all: ^(N)Stay awake.”
