¹⁶ The beast and the ten horns^(A) you saw will hate the prostitute.^(B) They will bring her to ruin^(C) and leave her naked;^(D) they will eat her flesh^(E) and burn her with fire.^(F)

⁹ “‘If a priest’s daughter defiles herself by becoming a prostitute, she disgraces her father; she must be burned in the fire.^(A)

¹⁶ and cry out:

“Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea,^(E) will stand far off.^(F)

17 One of the seven angels^(A) who had the seven bowls^(B) came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment^(C) of the great prostitute,^(D) who sits by many waters.^{(E) 2} With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”^(F)

³⁷ therefore I am going to gather all your lovers, with whom you found pleasure, those you loved as well as those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around and will strip^(A) you in front of them, and they will see you stark naked.^{(B) 38} I will sentence you to the punishment of women who commit adultery and who shed blood;^(C) I will bring on you the blood vengeance of my wrath and jealous anger.^{(D) 39} Then I will deliver you into the hands^(E) of your lovers, and they will tear down your mounds and destroy your lofty shrines. They will strip you of your clothes and take your fine jewelry and leave you stark naked.^{(F) 40} They will bring a mob against you, who will stone^(G) you and hack you to pieces with their swords. ⁴¹ They will burn down^(H) your houses and inflict punishment on you in the sight of many women.^(I) I will put a stop^(J) to your prostitution, and you will no longer pay your lovers. ⁴² Then my wrath against you will subside and my jealous anger will turn away from you; I will be calm and no longer angry.^(K)

⁴³ “‘Because you did not remember^(L) the days of your youth but enraged me with all these things, I will surely bring down^(M) on your head what you have done, declares the Sovereign Lord. Did you not add lewdness to all your other detestable practices?^(N)

⁴⁴ “‘Everyone who quotes proverbs^(O) will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.”

¹⁹ They will throw dust on their heads,^(A) and with weeping and mourning^(B) cry out:

¹⁸ so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,^(A) free and slave,^(B) great and small.”^(C)

¹² “The ten horns^(A) you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour^(B) will receive authority as kings along with the beast. ¹³ They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.^(C)
