⁹ They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God,^(A) who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent^(B) and glorify him.^(C)

²¹ From the sky huge hailstones,^(A) each weighing about a hundred pounds,^[a] fell on people. And they cursed God^(B) on account of the plague of hail,^(C) because the plague was so terrible.

¹³ At that very hour there was a severe earthquake^(A) and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the survivors were terrified and gave glory^(B) to the God of heaven.^(C)

⁵ I tell you, no! But unless you repent,^(A) you too will all perish.”

²² “But you, Belshazzar, his son,^[a] have not humbled^(A) yourself, though you knew all this. ²³ Instead, you have set yourself up against^(B) the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives^(C) and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand.^(D) But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life^(E) and all your ways.^(F)

¹⁰ The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast,^(A) and its kingdom was plunged into darkness.^(B) People gnawed their tongues in agony ¹¹ and cursed^(C) the God of heaven^(D) because of their pains and their sores,^(E) but they refused to repent of what they had done.^(F)
